‘Echoes’ Gives Us a Few More Hints as It Hits Steam Greenlight

We don’t know very much about Echoes, yet, or how it will handle its themes of mental health. But as its first episode arrives on Steam Greenlight, we can certainly pick up a few new clues.

In the trailer above, the player explores an empty apartment. In it, they find a book: A Study of Loss and Associated Reckless Behavioural Patterns. They find a prescription bottle. They also find a print-out of a meditative breathing exercise, with a mention of cognitive behavioral therapy.

As the game’s creators say, Echoes “follows a patient’s journey through counselling and overcoming their mental issues,” so we can probably expect these things to be more than set dressing. We might have to wait until the first episode arrives to learn much more, though.

Episode 1: Diagnosis explores the beginnings of the character and establishes the unique “mind break” game mechanic where players will have to overcome challenging and alien sections of the environment in order to progress and discover the story behind it all. Set in a world created by our character’s dream states, Echoes changes from charming to challenging and weaves in narrative to tie the experience together.

If you’re also curious to see where Echoes is going, you can follow its development or vote for it to be released on Steam from its Greenlight page.
