Charity Founded to provide education and awareness about mental health disorders and prevention elects Bethesda Softworks VP to its governing board.

Take This works in partnership with established video game companies and organizations to provide mental wellness preparedness training and solutions, and offer support where its needed, and offers education and awareness by sharing experiences of those struggling with mental health issues at its website, www.takethis.org.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to be asked to join the board of Take This,” says Pete Hines, VP of Marketing and PR at Bethesda Softworks. “Their work on mental health awareness and education is something that means a lot to me personally, and anything I can do to help them reach and help a wider audience in the gaming community and beyond is time well spent.”

Since 2014 Take This has partnered with Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) and Child’s Play Charity (CPC) to provide mental wellness support for PAX events worldwide, including the “AFK Room,” staffed with trained volunteers and volunteer mental health care clinicians where attendees of PAX conventions can take a break for the show and find help if they need it.

“I’ve been an admirer of Pete for a very long time. He was the first person at a game studio to give me an interview when I was just starting out as a journalist, and I’ve always considered him a direct, fair and amazingly talented individual,” says Russ Pitts, co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Take This, Inc. “The opportunity to work with Pete in furthering the mission of Take This, which for me is a deeply personal effort, is a dream come true.”

Take This will take part in the upcoming PAX South expo in San Antonio, January 23-25 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. In addition to the AFK Room, Take This will be presenting a panel titled “When to Step Away from the Screen” about addressing harmful online interactions.
