Every May, Atlanta becomes the home of MomoCon. MomoCon started as an event run by the Georgia Tech anime club and has extended into a 4 day event spanning two halls of the George Washington Convention Center. Since 2017, MomoCon has also been host to an AFK Quiet Room.
As a fan run convention, MomoCon is incredibly unique in what it has to offer attendees. The exhibit hall holds meet and greets and autograph sessions for voice actors, vendors of all kinds, and interactive experiences. There is a car show, an immersive experience hosted by the 501st (a Star Wars cosplay group), and even a wrestling ring with live matches. All throughout the convention center you can attend panels, play table top or video games, and attend any number of workshops. Our next door neighbor at the AFK room is the manga library!
I have always had Momo FOMO, so I was thrilled to finally have the chance to travel down. We have an amazing team of volunteers and coordinators in Atlanta, and it was great to be able to finally put names to faces! Additionally, the staff at MomoCon have always been supportive of Take This and all that the organization does.

Our Events and Community Outreach Coordinator, Jamy, was our boots on the ground from Day One. They hit the floor and connected with some old friends of the org (Shoutout to Jordan at AbleGamers!) and some new to us non-profits like Silence the Shame, a non-profit dedicated to bringing mental health resources to communities that need them. We also had an amazing time connecting with some new gaming companies, the Atlanta-based esport company Ghost Gaming.
The MomoCon community is one that is incredibly kind. This year the convention quietly introduced a 32 card collectible card game. It was a great way to learn about everything the convention had to offer and to interact with other attendees. I definitely made some new friends whose names I never learned, but who were eager to share the secret locations of cards as we bumped into each other over and over again!
We want to finish by giving a huge thank you to all of our friends at MomoCon for inviting us to be part of the fun for the past 9 years. We’re so glad to have become a part of this community, and we’re looking forward to many more to come!
