Announcement: AFK Online during PAX Online!

By  Dan Hevia · July 27th, 2020 · Announcements, Events

We at Take This are excited to announce the launch of the very first AFK Online! We are hosting a moderated Discord server that has been specifically designed to offer peer-based, non-therapeutic support to attendees of PAX Online, which runs from September 12-20.

We plan to keep the server active and staffed with volunteers 24 hours a day throughout the course of the nine-day convention. Volunteers will offer empathic support, answer questions relating to mental health information, and provide resources. The server will also have moderators to maintain a calm space for folks to relax and discuss the convention. Take This volunteers and clinicians do NOT provide mental health services or professional consultations.

In addition to our mental health resources, we will have channels for coloring pages, mindfulness meditation, cosplay displays, and cute animal pictures, to name a few. We hope to provide a safe space and sense of community for PAXOers.

In order to meet our ambitious goal of keeping the AFK Online server staffed 24/9, we need your help! We are looking for clinicians, non-clinical volunteers, and moderators to help us maintain a safe and supportive environment.

We’re asking folx to volunteer for four-hour shifts, although you’re welcome to stay and help out for as long as you like. Like in-person AFK Rooms, we’re looking for volunteers who sign up for shifts to be present, say hi, welcome people, hang out, color, and chat with those that want to. Clinicians will have the opportunity to be listed on our gamer-friendly clinicians page on the Take This website.

Update: As of Aug 25 we have enough volunteers! Thanks so much to everyone who signed up!

If you’re interested in being a moderator, which is an important but separate role, please sign up here. We are looking for moderators with prior moderating experience. These folx will ensure that the AFK Online server remains a safe, positive space for all users. They uphold and enforce the rules and guidelines of the discord.

You are welcome to sign up for both moderator and volunteer roles, but we ask that you complete both sign-up forms. Each form only takes a few minutes to complete. We’ll be in touch with you soon to provide more details.

You can join our existing Take This Discord server by clicking here.

Thank you for your interest in helping us in our mission to spread education and awareness about mental health issues, advocate for those who need help, and fight the stigma!
